The development of Wagyu cattle breeding in Bulgaria is entering a new stage – with a strong focus on genetics, traceability, and internationally recognized standards.
A detailed report by Agri.bg presents the approach we follow at the farm of Elena Wagyu – from genetic selection and breeding to the development of a closed production cycle.

Genetics and international standards
Since the first Wagyu cattle import in 2022, we have focused the farm’s development on international standards for breeding, genetics, and traceability.
Through our partnership with Australian Wagyu Association and the use of modern genetic systems, we monitor and evaluate our animals according to international criteria.
Genotyping and selective breeding allow us to continuously improve herd quality and develop the characteristics that define the Wagyu breed.
Developing a closed production cycle
We are developing a closed production cycle model – from genetics and breeding to fattening and offering the final product to the market.
The new fattening complex and the expansion of our own market presence are part of our long-term strategy for producing high-quality Wagyu beef in Bulgaria.
In January 2026, the “Bulgarian Wagyu Breeding Association” was officially established at the farm – an important step toward internationally recognized Wagyu breeding development in Bulgaria.

The development of this model demonstrates Bulgaria’s potential to become part of the modern Wagyu production landscape in Europe and to develop production that meets international standards.
